Theatre of Stones, Masrah Al-Hejra
Year: August 2007
Location: The Freedom Theatre, Jenin Refugee Camp, Jenin
Duration: 5:55 min
Synopsis: A school boy in the Jenin refugee camp recounts his life with a friend in the camp, interspersed with scenes from street demonstrations. Using footage of an actual Israeli military incursion in Jenin, the film contextualizes and abstracts stone-throwing as a form of resistance among young boys. The last scene takes place in the Freedom Theater, a youth arts center in the camp started by an Israeli woman. The film juxtaposes the reality of life under occupation with theater, leaving the viewer to decouple the act of resistance from performance.
Filmmakers: Ahmad Nasarallah, Basil Shalabi, Mohammed Ammar, Mohammed Ghazawi, Mustafa Stati, Tareq Al-Khaldi
